Conservative and Surgery Treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) has become a world-wide industrial problem. According to David Hinkamp, M.D statement that disorder is caused by injury of median nerve where its passes trough the wrist on it way from the forearm to hand. Injury in this nerve can cause impaired function. This conditions usually begins with a tingling, and numbness in the hand and fingers and may progress to the loss of feeling, loss of grip and finally a loss of some hand functions.
Carpal tunnel syndrome often occur in varied trades and crafts as stone-cutting, garment-cutting, hand-sewing, meat and poultry processing, electronic assembly work, riveting, word processing and pilot of helicopter. This condition can also affect anyone involved with repetitive motions of the wrist area such as sorting and flipping mail, use screw driver, cutter and pencil.
Two modes of treatment have been proposed in dealing with the problem of CTS. Those two modes are conservative and surgical treatment.
The conservative method applies human factor engineering principles to analyze repetitive motion jobs to identify those considered stressful and applies these same principles to reduce such stress. The surgery method consist of incising transverse carpal ligament of the wrist. Splint are worn for a short period to allow the healing.
